New Smyrna Beach is located on Florida’s east coast. It is approximately 56 miles northeast of Orlando. How far is Epic’s New Smyrna Beach location from other major airports? Not far at all! Your flight training will take you to nearby Orlando International Airport (MCO) (38 nautical miles) and Daytona Beach (12 nm) and many other airports. Epic’s New Smyrna Beach Aircraft Fleet
Epic students train in brand new aircraft. The Cessna 172 Skyhawk with G1000 glass cockpit is the most popular and safe flight training aircraft. Multi-engine students train in the Piper PA-44 Seminole. Learn to fly in safe, new equipment, and complete your training in a timely manner. Flight Simulator
One reason Epic has such a high pass rate for FAA exams and checkrides is because our students have the opportunity to train in flight simulators. Advanced Aviation Training Devices (AATD) increase knowledge and skills.
Cost to Attend Flight School in Florida
How much does school cost in Florida? We break down the complete cost of flight training from private pilot through commercial through instructor. The cost varies between domestic pilots and international pilots. It also varies based on which ratings and certificates you want to earn. Your regular and consistent attendance and completion of flight lessons is critical to your success.
Training Options at the New Smyrna Beach Flight Campus
- Full-time Flight Training: 5 days per week, up to 2 activities per day
- Part-time Flight Training: Full flexibility. Recommend scheduling a minimum of 3 to 4 times weekly to maintain proficiency. Less than this can severely limit your progress.
How long is flight school in Florida?
Again, this varies with every student based on attendance and ability. On average, it takes approximately 3 months to complete your PPL. Next, you’ll earning your Instrument Rating, which takes around 2 months. After that, your commercial pilot license (CSEL) will take another 2 months. Most US flight students go on to earn their CFI and CFII in order to work as a flight instructor. Your best approach is to focus and study! This is what our top students do.

Transportation in the New Smyrna Beach Area
Students who reside in Epic housing can use the Epic bus to get to campus. There are other sources of transportation as well.
- Airports: For private flights, use New Smyrna Beach. For commercial flights, use Daytona Beach International Airport, Orlando Sanford International Airport, or Orlando International Airport.
- Car Rentals: Plenty to choose from with Avis, Budget, Enterprise, and Hertz.
- Ride-sharing: Uber and Lyft are everywhere, including New Smyrna Beach!
- Train: Although there are no trains in the immediate area, Amtrak is located in nearby DeLand.
