Ribbon-Cutting at Tallahassee a Success
January was a busy month, which included the launch of our third flight school. Members of the Greater Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce welcomed Epic Flight Academy with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on January 14th at Tallahassee International Airport. The event was well attended, and CommuteAir even flew in an ERJ-145 jet for folks to tour. More than 60 people signed up for discovery flights. WTXL Meteorologist Elizabeth Copeland flew with Brock Rees, Director of Satellite Operations, earlier in the week and then broadcast live from Epic the day before the event. Our third location is officially open, and flight student Cody Harrison flew the first solo flight for Epic Tallahassee! Thank you, Tallahassee, for the warm welcome. We are glad to be there!
Aircraft Mechanic Open House
If you’re thinking about becoming an aircraft mechanic, we invite you to attend an Open House for our FAA Part 147 Aircraft Mechanic training facility in New Smyrna Beach on Saturday, March 4th from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Meet staff, tour the school, talk to current students, and enjoy some refreshments! Our next aircraft mechanic class starts on May 22nd.
New Flight Students
We welcomed a new class of Epic pilots in January. They have started their ground school and flight training and are doing great!
New Mechanic Students
Welcome to our newest class of Aircraft Mechanic students who started their training on January 30th. In just 19 months, they will be ready for an exciting new career. It only takes a few minutes to see if you’re eligible to train as an aviation maintenance technician.
February Special for Aircraft Mechanic Students
We have a special for qualified students who wish to enroll in our May class of Aircraft Mechanics. Eligible students will enjoy an all-inclusive package costing $45,000 that includes tuition, books, tools, all written testing, housing, and transportation for the full 19-month program. All students must meet all standard admission requirements. We do offer student loans for aircraft mechanic students.
Epic in the News
January was a busy month, and Epic was in the news 9 times, including Flying Magazine, Aero Crew News, AFM Aero, FSU News, General Aviation News, and more.
Epic Alumni News
We love our Epic graduates! We recently heard from 5 Epic alumni who are making their mark. Matthieu Kayombo is a First Officer at Air Katanga flying the EMB 135. Nuy Hoang Nguyen is a First Officer at Bamboo Airways flying the A320. Mohammed Alhdad, who trained at Epic in 2012, is now a pilot inspector for the Civil Aviation Authority in Egypt. Mohammed said, “Epic Flight Academy is a great start and the perfect choice for your Aviation career, and it will make your dreams come perfectly and smoothly true. My advice for current students is to be patient. Great things take time.”
Jeremy Hall is a flight instructor in Ontario and making the world a better place through his non-profit organization, Pilots4Paws. And Shivraj Toolsie is now a First Officer flying the ERJ-145 for Piedmont Airlines. He said, “Epic was a great training platform for my CFI to get me the experience required to be hired by the regionals.”
Are you an Epic grad? If so, send us an update.
Epic Staff News
January brought some new smiling faces to Epic! We are happy to welcome Donna Saltz, Arrival Coordinator; Emma Torgersen and Jacob Dunaway, Dispatchers; Justin “J.T.” Tubens, Scheduler; Laura Wade, Library Assistant; and flight instructors Robert Ruales and Thomas Larmena, Jr. Welcome to Team Epic!
Field Trip
We were thrilled to host a field trip from McInnis Elementary School. Not only did students enjoy seeing Epic’s fleet and meeting with flight instructors, they also checked out a flight simulator and got to see how Volusia County Mosquito Control relies on aviation to do its job. Teachers, come visit!
A Night Out
At Epic, we not only work hard, we play hard. Recently, students and staff from the pilot school and the aircraft mechanic school enjoyed a night out to an Orlando Magics game, because sometimes you just need to have some fun!
