Epic Field Trips and School Visits
Are your students curious about aviation? Do you think learning should be hands-on? Epic welcomes K-12 school students and teachers to visit our beautiful campus in New Smyrna Beach, Florida to learn about flight training, aircraft mechanic training, airport operations, and all things aviation! We also invite you to any of our locations or visit your school through Epic outreach.
What types of field trips are available?
We invite teachers, students, and chaperones to come learn about the world of aviation. If your students have their heads “in the clouds,” maybe you should introduce them to the STEM concepts in aviation. We welcome elementary, middle, and high school students throughout the school year and summer, too. We also welcome children who are homeschooled to visit with their parents. Field trips are free. We just ask you to work with us ahead of time to choose the day, time, and topics you’d like to learn about, such as:
- Flight training (aircraft and simulators)
- Aircraft mechanic training
- Airport operations
- Ground school topics
- Tour of the facilities and fleet
Is Epic a partner with Volusia County Schools?
Yes! We support education efforts in Volusia County and are an official partner with the district. Epic’s main campus is located in New Smyrna Beach, so we are closest to Port Orange, Daytona Beach, Edgewater, and Oak Hill. We also welcome visitors from other school districts. Epic personnel are also available to visit your school or classroom. We can attend your career fair, bring equipment to demonstrate (Sorry, we can’t fly a plane to your school!), or provide experts to speak on numerous aviation topics. You can even take a virtual tour to orient you to our main campus. We can also host school groups at our other locations.
Is there a museum at the New Smyrna Beach Airport?
No, there is no museum on site. However, students will be able to see a vintage DC-7 aircraft, and there are historical aviation items on display in the Dispatch area of our main campus. Although we honor the history of aviation with these exhibits, we focus on modern aviation training.
What is the best way to plan a field trip to Epic?
We encourage you to augment your current instruction with a field trip to any Epic campus. For example, if students are learning about the Wright Brothers or the Space Program, a visit to Epic would provide great support. If you have specific ideas, we can work with you. Logistically, here’s how to plan your visit:
- Contact us to discuss your specific request.
- Set a date and time.
- Reserve a bus (or buses) for your students.
- Provide copies of signed permission forms to Epic.
- Get ready for your kids to have fun!
- Ready to begin? Let’s get started!
Are there safety protocols for field trips?
Yes, just as K-12 schools have safety policies and procedures, so do flight schools. When you plan your field trip, we will go over this in more details. Students will be fully supervised and expected to adhere to all safety precautions related to an active airport. Epic’s motto is “Safety First!”
