KeymasterHi!
To obtain your FAA Inspection Authorization (IA), you’ll need to follow these steps:
Meet Eligibility Requirements:
You must:
Hold a valid Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) certificate.
Have at least 3 years of experience in maintaining aircraft, with at least 1 year of that experience in a supervisory or inspection capacity.Complete the Application: Fill out FAA Form 8610-1, “Application for Inspection Authorization.”
Pass the Written Test: You need to pass a written exam that covers regulations, maintenance practices, and inspection procedures. Study relevant materials,
including the FAA’s regulations and guidance.Submit Application: Submit your completed application form and any required documentation to your local FAA Flight Standards District Office (FSDO).
Interview: Be prepared for an interview with an FAA inspector, who will assess your experience and knowledge.
Receive Authorization: If everything is in order and you pass the interview, you’ll receive your IA authorization.
Stay Current: Remember, your IA must be renewed every two years, and you’ll need to complete specific training and experience requirements to maintain it.
For the most up-to-date information, check the FAA’s official website or contact your local FSDO.
Thank you!
