What’s the highest pilot rank you can start as at the airline and are you given a different uniform if you’re ranked higher?

Most pilots start at an airline as a First Officer, with direct entry as a Captain being rare and usually reserved for highly experienced pilots. Captain and First Officer uniforms differ mainly in the number of stripes on their epaulettes. Captains wear four, while First Officers wear three. Other subtle uniform differences may include hat trim and jacket details, which are typically more elaborate for Captains.
