Does a DUI conviction from 15+ years ago disqualify someone from becoming a commercial airline pilot? How severe or minuscule would color blindness need to be to disqualify someone from becoming a commercial airline pilot? Is it possible to work a full-time job while attending flight school, are there online and/or evening classes available for when flight time is not required?

    Hi Xander!

There are options for you to become a professional pilot. If you have a DUI conviction you may still be hired as a cargo pilot and by some airlines. To be sure of a specific airline’s requirements, we encourage you to be aware of their hiring requirements.

An FAA Medical can be obtained by some people with colorblindness. The restrictions will depend on the degree of colorblindness. The FAA has several mechanisms for making this determination. Consult an Aero Medical Examiner (AME) for more information. Some airlines have their own restrictions that are more stringent than the FAA’s.

Also, some students do work part-time jobs while they train, although we do not recommend it. If you do need to work, we suggest looking into more flexible jobs such as Uber, Door Dash, and Amazon Flex. These allow you to schedule your own hours around the scheduled training with Epic.

    I hope this helps.

    Thank you!
